KB5034441 Install Error W10 on Mac

Post by DonVetOne »

I have tried using the method to shrink the OS partition as described in Microsoft support to allow increase of the WinRE partition and allow the install of this update, but it fails.

Some assistance here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

Please provide a log where the error happens. This will tell if the Virtualbox VM keeps running and if this is actually a Windows problem.

Please start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager. In the "Logs" subfolder, zip the VM's "vbox.log", and post the zip file, using the forum's Attachments tab. (Configure your host OS to show all extensions so you can find the "vbox.log", not "vbox.log.1", etc.)

FWIW, when I used that procedure in a Windows 10 VM lately, the "REAgentC /enable" command seemed to have used a folder in C: instead of the enlarged RE partition, and KB5034441 was successfully installed afterwards.

If you're experiencing the well-known issue with the Windows RE partition and KB5034441, then the VBox.log file won't indicate anything special, since it's an issue that also occurs on Windows installations on physical PCs.
