VMs Won't start VirtualBox 7.0 with Ext Pack on Ubuntu 22.04

VM won't start. I have not had this problem before with VirtualBox so I thought I would share and hope for some answers. The VMs are working fine on QEMU/KVM.

When loading Ubuntuy 22.04 install .iso or the Kali Linux "prepared" VirtualBox VM (.vbox) image, VirtualBox just shows some boot-up text on the screen and never loads (see image below). The screen content is the same between both virtual machines (Ubuntu .iso and prepared Kali .vbox). I don't see any errors in the vbox.log files and ran them through ChatGPT which also didn't identify any errors.

The host is Ubuntu 22.04 with full updates and upgrades. The most recent Virtualbox 7 is installed and downloaded from the Oracle website along with the Extension Pack. After installing VirtualBox, I did updates and upgrades again and rebooted.

The graphics card is AMD Radeon 780M. I installed the AMD Radeon drivers for the base system Ubuntu 22.04 with no problems. Both VMs were configured with 128 MB of memory for graphics. This also happens when using "Safe Graphics" install method for both VMs.

Curiously, the Kali preconfigured VM loads custom Kali GRUB, then after selecting the OS to boot, fails with the screen above.

I have tried with the host bios Secure boot on and off, and virtually every setting in the "System" tab of the VM settings: TPM, Nested VT-X/AMD-V, PAE/NX, Paravirtualization Interface, Nested paging. No changes. Logs don't seem to indicate either. Here is full start log, no obvious errors.

The graphics card is AMD Radeon 780M. I installed the AMD Radeon drivers for the base system Ubuntu 22.04 with no problems. Both VMs were configured with 128 MB of memory for graphics. This also happens when using "Safe Graphics" install method for both VMs.
Inside of the VM there is no Radeon craphics card!

Full logs are needed, not truncated ones.

Please start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager. In the "Logs" subfolder, zip the VM's "vbox.log", and post the zip file, using the forum's Attachments tab. (Configure your host OS to show all extensions so you can find the "vbox.log", not "vbox.log.1", etc.)

Sure, the host's graphics card is Radeon 780M, and drivers are successfully installed there. Drivers can't be installed on the VM because never booted successfully.

There's something wrong with your setup, or you're not telling the whole story:

The VBox.log file was written by the Ubuntu-provided VirtualBox 6.1.48 and indicates a known issue with AMD 7840HS and 7940HS CPUs, which should be solved in VirtualBox 6.1.50 and 7.0.14. The screenshot in your OP could relate to this known issue, but the partial log in your OP was written by the Oracle-provided VirtualBox 7.0.14.

Note that Ubuntu-provided and Oracle-provided VirtualBox versions cannot coexist on the same host OS, because they use the same file names mostly in the same places. Please clarify your setup(s) ...

OK, here is some more info. I started with the Ubuntu-provided packages. This issue happened. I then `sudo apt remove virtualbox` and then installed version 7 downloaded from the Oracle website. The issue persisted. I didn't guess there was some possible crossover between the installations.

I will look into the potential cause as the installation crossover first.

It appears to me that only VirtualBox 7.0 is now running on the Ubuntu host.
I must have just posted the log from the first VM. However, the situation is still the same.
Here is a log from the VirtualBox 7.0 with the symptoms from the main post.

Additional information that may be relevant:

1. The host system has a split-tunnel VPN configured, but the problem persists whether connected to it or not.
2. The host system use a LUKS encrypted LVM partition.

Thanks for the log file. It looks like the fix for the known issue wasn't backported to VirtualBox 7.0.14.

Please try the workaround I posted in Re: Unable to install CentOS and report back.

The issue should be fixed in the VirtualBox test builds 7.0.15r161357 and newer. Please undo the workaround and give it a try.
