"GPU HANG: ... in VMSVGA FIFO" hangs Windows 10 VM

Post by spamrefuse »

Hello,

I have a Fedora Linux 39 host running on kernel 6.6.9.
It's using the integrated graphics GPU "Intel Corporation IvyBridge GT2 [HD Graphics 4000] (rev 09)"
Virtualbox is version 7.0.12 r159484.

Occasionally my Windows 10 VM hangs and the linux journal shows a GPU issue, for example:

Jan 14 22:02:18 kernel: vboxdrv: 000000003e5c606c VMMR0.r0
Jan 14 22:02:18 kernel: vboxdrv: 00000000084da4b4 VBoxDDR0.r0
Jan 14 22:05:53 kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 7:1:85ff7fc4, in VMSVGA FIFO [55698]
Jan 14 22:05:53 kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] Resetting rcs0 for stopped heartbeat on rcs0
Jan 14 22:05:53 kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] VMSVGA FIFO[55698] context reset due to GPU hang

The Windows 10 VM has the setting: "Graphics Controller: VBoxSVGA".

A 'reset' via the VB control menu does not help. I have to forcefully 'kill' the VM and boot up again.

Any idea what is the problem here?
Thank you.

New 6.6 kernel may require newer than 7.0.12 Virtualbox. Try the 7.0.13 test build or wait a couple days for 7.0.14. You'll have to search for the test build, i don't have my link notes just now.
