WinXP & Guest Additions

Hallo,
aufgrund eines Notebookwechsels habe ich zwischenzeitlich auf Win11 Pro (bisher Win10 Pro).
Aufgrund dessen, dass ich für noch in Verwendung befindliche Geräte zwingend WinXP benötige habe ich ein iso-File inkl. entsprechender Lizenz erworben (WinXP Pro SP3). Ziel war es analog meines bisherigen Systems, die XP-Maschine über VBox virtuell einzubinden.

Die Installation von XP selbst lief ohne Probleme durch. Das Problem kam erst mit dem Versuch die Guest Additions zu installieren. Die funktionierte schonmal nicht automatisch im Gastsystem und der Schaltfläche Geräte/Gasterweiterungen einlegen. Nun denn ... es gibt ja noch die Möglichkeit dies manuell zu tun ... gesagt, getan. Auch hier lief die Installation anstandslos durch. Nach der Aufforderung das System neu zu starten kam jedoch lediglich noch der Startbildschirm von WinXP und nach kurzer Zeit wurde der Bildschirm schwarz, d.h. Windows startet seither nicht mehr durch.

Auch ein erneutes Starten (wie in diversen Tipps gepostet) brachte keine Abhilfe.

Kann mir jemand helfen was hier ggf. Abhilfe schaffen könnte?

Ich bedanke mich schonmal recht herzlich im Voraus und hoffe es gibt eine Lösung.

7.0.8's Guest Additions for XP have a bug. Try 7.0.6 GAs here: https://download.virtualbox.org/virtual ... _7.0.6.iso

Or try the test builds. Save the test build installer until you update again later. You'll need it if your host's MSI installation database goes south (they do) and the installer will not be available for download after the next even-number version gets released. Also note the special instructions for Windows 10 & 11 hosts.

hi Scott,
just before the turn of the year, I have to come back to the previous post. Due to problems with the previous Windows XP installation, I had to reinstall the system (WinXP Pro / SP3). Unfortunately, I already noticed during the installation that it took an extremely long time. I had VirtualBox install the guest additions at the same time. The installation then worked after 3 unsuccessful attempts. Unfortunately, the system then also started extremely slowly, which is why I started another attempt at the installation. During this installation, I got a blue screen on two further attempts. Is there any current information on corresponding bugs? Furthermore, tips on how to fix the problems would be great.
Currently used versions:
1. VirtualBox = 7.0.12 r159484 (Qt5.15.2)
2. GuestAdditions = 7.0.12
