kernel 6.6.4 is incompatible with vbox

Post by virtualhuman »

Today I upgraded my Fedora desktop from kernel 6.6.3 to 6.6.4 and lo and behold, like every year, for the past 10 years, virtualbox is broken with another kernel update.

On the positive side, virtualbox is broken consistently ;) hah

I know the devs don't read these forums, but I had to vent my frustration!

Updated Linux kernels always require an updated Virtualbox. Been that way for a while. 7.0.14 should be out January-ish.

Funny thing.
I'm running Lubuntu 23.10 with kernel 6.6.8 (self build) on an AlderLake system and I have no issues with VirtualBox 7.0.12
To build the kernel I started with a kernel .config file from Ubuntu 6.2 generic series, then run

Code: Select all

make oldconfig
and make some manuals tweaks.

The resulting kernel 6.6.8 executes VB 7.0.12 without issues.
Currently running some Ubuntu 22.04 and FreeBDB14 VM guest.
