VirtualBox 7.0.12 and Debian Linux VM cant add more RAM to guest

Post by Cor3 »

Hello,

I have Windows 11 Insider host and current version of VirtualBox (7.0.12) and I can't add more RAM to Debian guest. I have tried add from 4GB to 6GB with GUI Settings and with cmd VBoxManage. After booting virtual machine only 4GB is allocated.

It works ok, but can't add more RAM.

Is the Debian OS a 32-bit OS?

I know the 4GB memory limit with 32bit systems. VirtualBox General Version shows Debian 12 Bookworm (64bit).

And "uname -a" show:

Code: Select all

Linux debian 6.5.0-5-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.5.13-1 (2023-11-29) x86_64 GNU/Linux
And I did fresh install with Bookworm 64bit netinst-iso few months ago. And after that upgraded to sid.

Please start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager. In the "Logs" subfolder, zip the VM's "vbox.log", and post the zip file, using the forum's Attachments tab. (Configure your host OS to show all extensions so you can find the "vbox.log", not "vbox.log.1", etc.)
