Grey screen or problem with display with Debian 12

Post by FX8370core »

There is an issue with the VBox and Debian 12 Bookworm as well as Devuan Daedalus in efi mode: the graphical install ends in a "cannot open display 0", the expert install in a grey screen. Whats wrong here?

Attached are two logs.

FWIW, the VBox.log files do not indicate any problem to me. The (virtual) display is initialized to 1024x768x32.

If anyone come to this thread with such issue, this is the workaround > https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... 310;msg=60
Still persists with debian 12.4 iso VBox 7.0.13 beta

(mod edit: copying the workaround post text here, in case the link goes stale)
Encountering the same issue, I can confirm it still persists in RC4.
However, digging a bit deeper with the error I found on dmesg: "x86/PAT:
bterm:260: map pfn expected mapping type uncached-minus for ..., got
write-combining", I found this workaround:
Disabling paravirtualization in virtualbox acceleration or switching it to
legacy results in a properly booting installer.

Kind regards,
Erwin

I can confirm that the workaround does its job alright.
