Problem on sharing files btw Windows VM and Linux Host

Hi all,

Ubuntu 22.04 desktop host
Windows 11 VM

I have share-folder setup on Windows 11 VM
Please see screenshot-1

Also Windows VM can see the share-folder

But I can't tranfer files between them. Please advise.

What happens when you try to transfer files? Host to VM? VM to host?

What does "transfer" mean? Move the file into the shared folder then move it out on the other OS? Open the file while it is still in the shared folder?

Are the permissions on the Linux host open enough to allow you to share a host folder?

copy files from Host to VM, only a link created

Copy files from VM to Host - no action, files not copied

The setup is similar to files sharing btw Linux Host and Linux VM. It works without problem btw Linux Host and Linux VM.

How to make a further check? Tks

Thanks for the info. This sounds like a Linux thing, we'll need a Linux guru on this one.

There are many Linux ways in the past. Samba is one of the solution.

Please start the VM from full normal shutdown, not save-state. Run until you see the problem happen, then shut down the VM from within the VM's OS if possible. If not possible, close the Virtualbox window for the VM with the Power Off option set.

Right-click the VM in the main Virtualbox window's VM list, choose Show in Explorer/Finder/File Manager. In the "Logs" subfolder, zip the VM's "vbox.log", and post the zip file, using the forum's Attachments tab. (Configure your host OS to show all extensions so you can find the "vbox.log", not "vbox.log.1", etc.)

The old log, host extension problem, and Extension Pack version problems are the same as viewtopic.php?p=544177#p544177

Guest Additions are installed, and the Virtualbox Shared Folder is automounting:

00:00:13.918944 VMMDev: Guest Log: 03:38:02.665240 automount vbsvcAutomounterMountIt: Successfully mounted 'Transfer_Folder' on 'Z:'

I don't see any use of the Virtualbox Shared Folder in the log.

Based on both topics, I think this is a permissions problem on the host. A Linux guru may be needed to suggest diagnostic steps.
