Boot failure after upgrade to guest additions 7.0.12

I have a reproducible issue with a specific Windows 7 x64 guest VM that
- runs fine with guest additions 7.0.8 under VB 7.0.12 hosted on Windows 10
- invites me to upgrade guest additions to 7.0.12
- then (if I do) fails on all next reboots, as follows.
After the (non-UEFI) startup screen I get "Démarrage de Windows" (Loading Windows) for <1s, then "Windows charge les fichiers..." with a crude progress bar that gets to 100% within <1s, then after 2s and 2 changes of the screen size a "Réparation du démarrage" (startup repairs) Windows tool runs, then report failure after like 30s, including "Autofailover" and "CorruptFile" (but does not not tell which).

I have a backup so I can retry at will.

Upgrading thru either the "Upgrade guest additions" or manually with "Insérer l'image CD des additions invités" (Insert guest additions CD image) makes no difference.
Disabling network connection makes no difference.
Upgrading to guest additions 7.0.10 does NOT cause the issue. However the same problem occurs if I then upgrade to 7.0.12.
There is no remarkable difference in the log files resulting from installation of 7.0.10 and 7.0.12.
The problem does not occur with other Windows 7 x64 guest VMs that I use. That means I could recreate that VM from scratch. But I wish I could avoid that!

Any clues?

I confirm the problem does not occur for me using VBoxGuestAdditions_7.0.13-160164 at https://www.virtualbox.org/download/te ... 160164.iso

specifically VBoxWindowsAdditions-amd64.exe 7.0.13.29092 signed 2023-11-09 22:53:15Z.
