Re: Discuss the VirtualBox 6.1.48 release here
Hello,
I have a problem with Version 6.1.48 - it destroyed my virtual maschine with WindowsXP 32bit. After updating the the VM with the
new guestsystem and a restart a message comes "Windows will collect data" and the VM starts with reparing the system.
But it' s not working.
It happens yesterday with the Apple-Version and today with the Windows-Version.
Thank you very much Oracle. The people can be proud of that.

If you are entitled to support then you should contact your Oracle support rep.
If you are not entitled to support then that puts you on the freeloading / bug testing team like the rest of us: and congrats you found a bug. Albeit one which has actually been well discussed for some weeks now.
The bug affects both 6.1.48 and 7.0.12 and the problem is that the GAs certification used in the build process for those versions turns out to be incompatible with older Windows, i.e. Win7 and Win8 (but not affecting Win8.1, Win10 or Win11). IMO the slip is understandable as Win7 is long obsolete (released 15 years ago) and hence is no longer of concern to most paying customers.
Just stick to the older GAs until the next release fixes the problem.
And perhaps start reading the release discussion topics before installing a new release.

Windows 8.1 is in the other camp (see #21875).

Hmm. I thought I recalled Klaus saying otherwise in the 7.0.12 discussion, but fine. I'm also fine with leaving the posts as-is.
{Edit} Just checked. You are correct. I knew I remembered Klaus mentioning 8.1, but he was saying that the bug affected Windows versions up to and including 8.1.

Windows 8.1 and Server2012 R2 guest additions are broken in 6.1.48 as well. Same problem as in a Windows 7 vm.
Edit: fixed in the latest 6.1.49.160139 test version (guest 6.1.49.160107). Thanks
