I am on Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3 using VB 6.1.38.
I am not able to get 1920x1080 resolution in my Windows 10.0.19044.1288 21H2 VM no matter what graphic settings i pick from the VM configuration. The Windows VM has the guest add ons installed (6.1.38) but i get only 1024x768 using the VB Graphics adapter (VBoxSVGA).
Enabling the 3d acceleration option makes windows graphics break up, so that does not work.
I tried the other virtual adapters in the VB options to no avail. VMSVGA lets me pick up to 1600x1200 but windows shows "Microsoft basic adapter" in the hardware manager, graphics look stretched and i need full HD resolution to work in Photoshop.
Selecting the 1920 resolution with View> Virtual Screen 1 > Resize to 1920x1080 has no effect whatsoever.
I do have 15 other Linux based guest VMs in the same system and i can chose HD resolution in all of them, the problem is only with Windows 10.
I am using the latest available VB 6.1.38 from the software manager, and i tried to Upgrade to 7 using the official DEB package from virtualbox,org/wiki/Linux_Downloads but when i run the installer it tells me "Error: Conflicts with the installed package 'virtualbox-qt'", although I am not sure upgrading to 7 would take care of the resolution issue with the VM, and having the other VMs i mentioned, I am afraid removing VB completely to install the new version can mess with the configurations of all my VMs.
Any help much appreciated. Thank you guys

Re: Unable to change resolution to 1920x1080
You can't select a widescreen display size using guest OS dialogs when the guest OS thinks you have a 4:3 monitor. The guest OS is unfamiliar with monitors whose shape can change!
Drag the window borders to manually create a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. Reboot the guest a couple of times and it will hopefully be convinced that you have a widescreen monitor.

Re: Unable to change resolution to 1920x1080
Ok.. i selected the option in View > Auto-resize guest display and dragged the window borders and the resolution adjusts automatically. I was not aware VB interprets the window size as if it was available pixels on a physical monitor. Just learned something new today. Setting full screen gets me 1920x1080, thank you for the tip!!
