Windows Guest Additions
Windows Guest Additions
Where can I find appropriate version Guest Additions for WinXP guest on Win 10 host? One installed seems old (5.1.28r.117968) and sometimes some functions like copy between doesn't work. I found VBoxGuestAdditions_7.0.11-158681 but this doesn't load from within the guest XP3 - automatic, from Devices/Create or Choose or manually as per User Manual. VirtualBox version is 7.0.10 r 158379 (Qt5.15.2).

Re: Windows Guest Additions
You should probably use the bundled Guest Additions that came with 7.0.10.
What does this mean?
"Upgrade Guest Additions" requires compatible GAs already installed. If 5.1.28 GAs is still installed in the XP VM, these are too old for "Upgrade" to work.
"Insert Guest Additions CD Image" is the usual choice to make. XP usually will auto-start the GAs installer.

There's no "Create" option in the Devices menu.

Re: Windows Guest Additions
I have this same question. Win XP SP3 (32-bit) guest, had v5 GA installed (I haven't used this guest in a while), I upgraded to 7.0.8 GA and now the guest will not boot. Gets passed the Windows XP logo screen then goes black before it gets to the Welcome screen and stops there. I booted the guest in safe mode, uninstalled GA, rebooted and it boots fine without GA. Then I reinstalled the v7 GA and same issue, wont boot. I have another Win XP guest with v6 GA and that boots fine, so it seems like the v7 GA may not be compatible with XP?

Wrong turn, unfortunately, 7.0.8 Guest Additions had bugs in XP, which I believe were fixed in 7.0.10. You'll have to uninstall 7.0.8 GAs from XP in Safe Mode (web-search how to get there in XP) then install 7.0.10, if your host is also on 7.0.10.

Re: Windows Guest Additions
Problem is, 7.0.10 won't install on my Win 7 host (I discussed this in another thread a few months ago), so I'm limited to 7.0.8. How about 7.0.6 GA? Can the GA be downloaded separately? Even the v6 GA might work, if I can get it separately.
EDIT: I installed 6.1.46 in another VM, got the GA ISO, installed it in my XP guest and it's working now.

Re: Windows Guest Additions
Glad you have a setup working!
7.0.6 GAs was a workaround for 7.0.8 at the time. Old Virtualbox versions including separate GAs downloads are available here https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/
