Cannot install Ubuntu on Virtual Box on Mac
I am unable to install Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or 22.04 LTS on Virtual Box installed on Mac. Ubuntu install fails on multiple attempts to install. Attached is zip of Mac hdw, VB version info, VBox.log.

Re: Cannot install Ubuntu on Virtual Box on Mac
If I google correctly, you're running Catalina. I'm no Mac guru, one may be along shortly. But Virtualbox 7.0 may not run on Catalina well. Maybe. 7.0 has no kexts to be compatible with Ventura & later. 6.1 was working on pre-Ventura Macs. You might try that.
The log doesn't show any problems with the Virtualbox "hardware" as I can see. The VM stays up, though the log does not end.

Re: Cannot install Ubuntu on Virtual Box on Mac
Good. Please try installing 6.1 instead of 7.0.

Re: Cannot install Ubuntu on Virtual Box on Mac
Reverted to Version 6.1. Was able to install Ubuntu 22.04 LTS no problem. THANKS! Did I miss a disclaimer about VB 7.x not being supported on Catalina? Is there an expectation that it will be supported in the future?

No, not necessarily. It just works out that way. Since Ventura forced no kexts and native Apple hypervisor, 7.0 is trying to run in those two fashions. It has anecdotally turned out that no-kext-native-hypervisor doesn't do so well on the Mac OS's that allowed kexts and the Virtualbox hypervisor.rkrull1956 wrote: ↑26. Possibly. Maybe the troubles are from bugs that will be fixed. 6.1 will remain available (4.0 is still availablerkrull1956 wrote: ↑26. Sep 2023, 21:54 Is there an expectation that it will be supported in the future?

Re: Cannot install Ubuntu on Virtual Box on Mac
FWIW Apple ceased supporting macOS 10.15 (Catalina) on Sep 12, 2022 so, IMO, you are unlikely to see any significant priority being given to continuing support from 3rd-party developers whose main focus has to be on those versions still being supported by Apple into the future.
If Apple stick to their normal policy of only supporting the current OS release, plus the 2 previous versions, macOS 11.x (Big Sur) will also presumably disappear from Apple's list of supported versions on the release of 'Sonoma'.
