Guru Meditation before setup.

Post by 0x00000074 »

Hello, my host is Windows 11 build 22621 with 16GB RAM, 9.3GB available, with VirtualBox 7.0.8. My Guest OS is Windows 8 build 8045 x64, with 4GB RAM, 2 cores, 128MB Video Memory (3D acceleration on). The Virtual Machine is fairly new, and once I have run the machine, it says Welcome, then crashes into a Guru Meditation. Your help means a lot and I have attached log files.

Windows 8? Are you sure about that?

Please note that Windows 8.1 and later require a different template, i.e. the template that matches the guest OS.

Also note that beta versions of a guest OS are not guaranteed to work.

Or it could simply be because you have Hyper-v enabled.

I don't have Hyper-V enabled as I have Windows 11 Home.

I showed you the log - no speculation was involved.

FYI Windows 10 Home has Hyper-v. It just doesn't give you the means to create VMs.

Just follow the FAQ.

I have disabled Hyper-V, following the instructions, and the guru meditation has gone away, but the error message says "Your computer needs to restart. Please hold the power button. Error Code: 0x0000001E Parameters: 0xFFFFFFFFC0000096 0xFFFFF8000214FB01 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000

When you restart the VM, what does it do?

Please post a new log if the VM OS does not stop BSODing.

Thanks for the log. It shows booting and reading from the CD, and a bit of reading from the hard disk, but nothing written. Seemingly nothing wrong in the VM "hardware".

The Windows 8 build is 8045, which is a beta build.

Curiously, Virtualbox defaults to using SATA for Windows 8 VMs. But your VM has IDE, and the CD drive is on Primary Slot 0, and the hard disk on Primary slot 1 though possibly workable, is unusual: Hard disk is usually on Primary slot 0 and CD is on Primary slot 1. And a Windows 8 VM would be using SATA.

Why did you change the VM recipe?

It might have been automatic, but I changed it to AHCI SATA, HDD at Slot 0, CD at Slot 1. Is there anything else I need to do?
