Nagios applicance won't run

Post by JustinH »

I downloaded the OVA from https://www.nagios.com/downloads/nagios-xi/microsoft/, imported the appliance into 6.1 and 7.0. When I launch the VM, it starts running, looks like it is going thru hardware enumeration then just stops after the NICs are listed. If I let it sit for a few minutes, it will error out.

I can import into VMWare Player and it runs perfectly.

Is this a recent Linux? If so you need to keep your VirtualBox up to date to support new Linux kernels. 6.1.24 is quite old.

You mentioned VirtualBox 7 but provided no evidence, so I ignore that.

Also, give way more than 16MB graphics RAM: max it out. 2048MB normal RAM also seems a bit light for a 64bit desktop OS. Your host has plenty RAM, I'd give the VM 8GB.

I did try on 7.0 (on another host). I didn't lie.

VRAM doesn't need to be much for a console. The proven appliance settings are viable. I bumped both RAM settings for fun, but it didn't help.

I experimented with the disk controller. Type PIIX4 allowed it to work.

Where did I say that you lied? I said that you provided no evidence for the VirtualBox 7 scenario (i.e. the only log was for VBox 6.1.24). That is an obviously true fact. It's hard to see how my very clear wording could have been miscontrued.

In any case it wouldn't have mattered since we don't allow discussion of two problems in one topic.
