Automation problems for steering a VM

Hi,
I would like to automate some actions in a VM and I need to enter a number of simulated keystrokes for that purpose (like logging on, starting a program, ...).
Has anyone achieved this in vbs or wirh VBoxManage? If yes I would love to see a coding example!
