The fact that a folder exists may not be definitive.

I will REALLY appreciate help till a working VirtualBox with guest additions are installed. I apologise for being absent but my home laptop stopped working. Even if I can find a link to a working Virtual Box with Linux kali as guest and Windows as host

Today I tried to update and suspect Guest additions are sitting in a temp folder

I did a drag attempt and a copy and paste attempt and am sending a log file of this
Linux kali-2023-08-11-15-08-54 log 11 8 23.zip
(51.9 KiB) Downloaded 23 times

You have not installed the GAs. That quoted part is just the kernel-level stuff that Debian adds to the kernel. It is both obsolete and not sufficient.

See chapter 4, and pay attention to error messages when you build the GAs.

In line with Mpack's diagnosis, and based on some hex whispering from fth0 lately, you tried to install the Guest Additions, but you didn't run the prerequisites, especially the kernel headers:
00:00:42.948784 VMMDev: Guest Additions information report: Version 6.0.0 r127566 '6.0.0'
...
00:00:48.864275 VMMDev: Guest Log: 12:31:57.034372 main VBoxService 7.0.8 r156879 (verbosity: 0) linux.amd64 (Apr 17 2023 18:38:33) release log
Guest Additions have prerequisites in Linux, same as Virtualbox on the host, see https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04. ... ions-linux and https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch02. ... nux-prereq
Also, watch the terminal installation report when running the GAs installer. Error messages will show if the install ran into a problem.

I'd recommend uninstalling/purging the Guest additions from the Linux VM OS. Reboot, then run the prerequisites, then the Guest Additions again.

Also, downgrade the Extension Pack:
00:00:08.332394 VirtualBox VM 7.0.8 r156879 win.amd64 (Apr 17 2023 16:42:53) release log
00:00:08.514870 Installed Extension Packs:
00:00:08.514897 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack (Version: 7.0.10 r158379; VRDE Module: VBoxVRDP; Crypto Module: VBoxPuelCrypto)
Extension Pack must match Virtualbox version. See https://download.virtualbox.org/virtual ... ox-extpack

Alternatively, bring the host up to 7.0.10, leave the existing 7.0.10 Extension Pack in place, uninstall the Guest Additions, run the prerequisites, then install the 7.0.10 Guest Additions.

Thank you SO MUCH for all the advice
That , together with this link helped me to install headers
then GuestAdditions - from the iso but with an additional 'sh' as explained in link below
https://itslinuxfoss.com/virtualbox-gue ... 20packages.

I can now copy and past from guest to host and back

Not 100% sure if everything is there but working for now

Copy/paste is generally reliable if you stick to supported clipboard items (plain text and images - no files).

Drag and drop has never been reliable. That is (and should have been) an entirely separate discussion.
