Which Version of Ubuntu and Which Version of virtualbox

Post by jonro »

I am about to install virtualbox on my iMac. I'd like to install ubuntu linux, but don't know which version would be appropriate. Also, can the iMac run the 64-bit version of virtualbox? Thanks.

VB at the current versions (2.1.0 or less) does not support 64bit guests for Mac host.

There is little performance advantage in running a 64bit guest anyway.

As far as Ubuntu guest versions goes: use Ubuntu JeOS server if you want to have a bare LAMP configuration. If you want a desktop version then its a case of personal preferences: (Gnome) Ubuntu is the "standard" install. Many ex-Windows users prefer the richer and slightly more heavyweight KDE based Kubuntu. There is also a more more minimal XDE based version.
