Ok, so heres the deal...i will soon be buying a sony aw laptop with vista 64 on it...however, i still need to be able to run xp 32 on it for a few misc applications. Does the virtualbox amd64 version work on vista 64 bit on an intel platform or is it only for 64 bit amd machines? if virtualbox will not install on this machine, what would be the best way to virtualize a 32 bit windows xp under a vista 64 machine? thanks for any help that can be provided.
Tim

AMD was the first with 64 bit processors. Intel just copied the instructionset. Everyone who builds packages, name them amd64. If you run a 64 bit OS, install the amd64 bit package.

If you want an application to run in Vista 64, right click it, go to properties, then under the compatibility tab click "Run this program in compatibility mode for" then check the following box for what ever OS the application was made to run on. I have Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1, but Ultimate should have this feature.

That might work with normal programs, but not with those who use specilized drivers for accessing the hardware. It would crash your system if you install a 32 bit driver on a 64 bit Host.Ralphnaderchop wrote:If you want an application to run in Vista 64, right click it, go to properties, then under the compatibility tab click "Run this program in compatibility mode for" then check the following box for what ever OS the application was made to run on.
