Tried this... I do have a .config dir in the guest, but no xml whatsoeverKingstonBlack wrote:Found the solution on https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Guest_resizing - delete ~/.config/Monitors.xml.
Note to self - RTFM
Back running smoothly with VMSVGA + 3D acceleration, although I still needed the Host-F toggle

Using XFCE on CentOS 8 the 6.1.7 test build (VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.7-137622) results in the DE not starting for me after a reboot. It seems like the X server won't come up but it's a bit hard to tell.

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
If I dont misunderstand you are complaining that the OSs resolution configuration dialog does not have some resolution in the list. That list is obtained from the xrandr back-end (there they are called modes). We add the mentioned modes dynamically. Long story short if you want to have the resolution 1920x1080 you can choose it from the machine windows view dialog's list.

Hello,
I'm facing this problem on pure Wayland session: (The guest runs very smoothly on Wayland)
Host: Win10 + Vbox 6.1.6 + VMSVGA + 3D
Guest: OS: Arch Linux x86_64 + GA 6.1.6
Host: VirtualBox 1.2
Kernel: 5.6.10-arch1-1
Shell: bash 5.0.16
Resolution: preferred <---- 1920x1080 ??
DE: GNOME
WM: Mutter
on X11 session resizing is working, but on Wayland session my native resolution 1920x1080 is missing.
With GA 6.1.7 i can set 1920x1080 on Wayland but starting first a X11 session and switching back to Wayland session.
Some error logs:

Installation from this ISO fixed the 'black screen after login' for VBox Guest Additions 6.1.6 with a Debian Bullseye guest running on a MacOS host. The Debian machine is running XFCE.Whiskeyjack wrote:Anyone who has been having problems in managing and resizing monitor(s) can try new guest additions iso image:

Hopefully this behaves better for most desktop environments. Again to make it clear this is for X11 clients using vmsvga. Please no reports for guests using wayland in this thread.

6.1.7 GA - fixed the 'black screen after login' in Xubuntu 18.04 and Debian 10 Buster\XFCE on a MacOS host
VMSVGA + 3D acceleration enabled
bidirectional clipboard works

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
The best version for me (on CentOS 8.1) has been VBoxGuestAdditions_6.1.5-136459 which it seems is no longer available.
Resolution matching works correctly, even on the login screen.

I'm currently still running 6.1.2 r135662 with 6.1.2 guest additions also because of the clipboard issue and 6.1.4 and the resolution issue in 6.1.6.
Have both been fixed? If not, when can we expect a fix? I'm using a Windows 10 Pro host with AMD Ryzen and Vega 56 and a Linux Mint guest.

Same problem with all my Linux guests on Windows 10 host, VB6.1.6. Renders everything unusable.
Where do we get the 6.1.7 version of the extensions? Can't see it on the website.

Re: Guest Additions 6.1.6 r137129 break graphic settings
I have tried VB 6.1.6 on a Windows 10 host and Arch Linux guest and it didn't work. I couldn't get the XFCE desktop started while 3D was enabled in VMSVGA. The graphic was limited to a few modes with 3D disabled.
My question is: what is the best combination of VirtualBox on the Windows host and in an Arch Linux guest?

For me
* 6.1.6 r137129 : is working great (except crash read memory 0X0000000 on vscode)
* 6.1.7 r137622 : second monitor freeze after the windows host lock screen, if I switch back to non seamless mode, I loose the second monitor, I have to enable it again (also crash on vscode)

I tried the newest test-version: VirtualBox-6.1.7-137622-Win.exe (with recompilation of the guest-addition), still the same Problem: Resizing works for one second, then switching back to small window.
Guest is a Kubuntu 20.04 with newest updates using VMSVGA with 3d enabled. 3d is working in the small window.
With VboxSVGA and no 3d the resizing works, but no 3d.
The same vmdk-file works in VMWare without any problem, but I like to switch to VBox.
Graphic card: Nvidia GTX1660 super.

Update to latest version of GA and try again. (test build download page). Here it works on Kubuntu20.04 on vmsvga with 3D enabled. And do read the whole thread before posting something.Woko wrote:I tried the newest test-version: VirtualBox-6.1.7-137622-Win.exe (with recompilation of the guest-addition), still the same Problem: Resizing works for one second, then switching back to small window.

Does it also work with an Arch Linux guest and xfce?
