VirtualBox locks up and is unresponsive with Ubuntu VM on Windows 7

Post by greggwon »

I have installed the latest 6.0 (6.0.10), and have for the past couple of weeks been experiencing a complete lockup of the VirtualBox VM window and admin App. The VM window becomes unresponsive. The -, [] and X buttons work on the window frame. Opening the admin window to try and send a shutdown to see if it will wake it up, yields a spinning cursor on that app since it apparently is trying to talk to the VM to get the current state of it.

Any recommendations?

I've attached log files. If there are other needs, let me know. Again, this is 64-bit windows-7 with 6.0.10 Virtualbox.

00:00:02.304500 VRDP: TCP server listening on port 3390 (IPv4 and IPv6).
Why do you have the RDP server enabled? You don't seem to have any use for it. Please disable it in the VM Settings » Display » Remote Display.

VM Settings » General » Advanced » Drag'n'Drop: disable that.

You have quite an interesting setup there. Although somewhat understandable can you explain it and especially the VMDK part? And what exactly is "D:\"? Finally, always eject the "VBoxGuestAdditions.iso" from your VM after you're done installing the GAs.

These are the three times from the three logs that you posted. There's nothing strikingly obvious, nothing that you can easily reproduce. Can you disable any power/energy savings in the guest?

I have RDP enabled to access my VM from coworkers computers who are not close.

The machine has multiple disks and D: is one of the equipped disks.

This exact config has worked fine for quite some time. It’s the latest
Release of 6.0.10 when it started doing this lockup where it just stops responding.
Clicking the close window X does not bring up the normal close dialog.
If I click it a second time, the window just disappears.

I’ve reverted back to the latest 5.X release for now.

VirtualBox has broken sound support. Disable Audio to fix your issue.

My colleagues and I all had the same problem when we moved to version 6.0.14.

When I updated from version 5.20.x to 6.0.14 the issue started happening. I am running a CentOS 7 VM and as soon as I moved to 6.0.14 I started getting regular locks up more than once a day.

In Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager:

1. Select your Linux VM
2. Open Settings
3. Select Audio
4. Untick Enable Audio to disable sound support.

I'd like to see some examples of that. Or as they say in Wikipedia, [Citation needed]...
