No audio and laggy video when host connects to BT device

Post by Dr.Winny »

Hi,

I have an Ubuntu 16.04 guest hosted by a Windows 10 host through virtual-box.

It appears that whenever I connect a Bluetooth audio device to the host (e.g. headphones) while the guest is running, any audio from the Ubuntu guest stops playing and any video is playing slow (being the media from the web or from the internal storage of the guest); if I disconnect the BT device, such condition persists.

It it necessary to restart the guest while the BT device remains connected to the host in order to be able to hear audios and watch videos from the guest without issues. But this problem appears also on the other way: when I disconnect the BT device when the guest is running, audio and videos reproduction are compromised as well.

Basically, whenever the host's playback device is changed, audios and videos of the guest don't work properly.

We need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run, where the problem occurs:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe or recreate the problem / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

Please take a look on my ticket #18695 here and my comments from last 14 month as a boxer01 on the linked ticket #17225. You‘ll see that those are well known problems for over a year now (since September 2018).

I also have this problem - the same message in the virtual machine log:

Code: Select all

Audio: Device configuration of driver 'DSoundAudio' has changed
The only workaround I know is "Save the machine state" followed by "Start".
There is also ticket #18404 - not solved yet.

Can you all please try the newly released 6.1.0?

I tried the new version, but unfortunately the problem persisted.

00:01:44.608035 Audio: Device configuration of driver 'DSoundAudio' has changed
(headphones disconnected, audio lost)

00:02:44.625798 Audio: Device configuration of driver 'DSoundAudio' has changed
(headphones reconnected, audio did not come back)

We are at v6.1.2 and still nothing changed...

May be there could be a way to correct that by rethinking the audio support by allowing the selection of the playback device for VB handled guests instead of relying on the system default one and loosing the feature when the device disappeared.

Try to test the new betas (6.1.5 136449, 6.0.19 136450, 5.2.39 136276). As I described in the corresponding ticket, I found some improvements here.

Take a look at the #18594 and the version 6.1.17 build 141128. This one looks like to be solved.
