What is the preferred network adapter now with Vbox 6?

The one that's always been; the one proposed by the template, depending on the guest.

Not sure why such a question came up... Why do you ask, do you think that something changed with 6.0.x?

There has been a lot of work on paravirtualization. I was just making sure nothing has changed on the networking front.

Oh, maybe that was 5.0 where they did the paravirt work. Sorry, my bad there. I used to stay current on all the releases and even do performance testing, but now I just "use" it.

No problem, I get confused all the time as well with features in/features out... :)

But don't go crazy believing that virtio-net will do miracles for you. We just had a discussion the other day on the IRC #vbox channel, and the maximum throughput that (a really dedicated) user could get was 2 Gbps, nothing super-duper...
