Windows 10 Host unable to launch Kali VM: E_FAIL (0x80004005)

Post by DrumminFool91 »

Hi, I've previously been able to successfully run a Kali Linux VM through Oracle Virtual Box. The only thing that has changed since the last time I ran my VM successfully and now is that Office 365 products (e.g., word, excel, etc.) was installed on my host.

Error I'm receiving is:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Kali-Linux-2019.2-vbox-amd64.
Call to WHvSetupPartition failed: ERROR_SUCCESS (Last=0xc000000d/87) (VERR_NEM_VM_CREATE_FAILED).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
Host is a MS Surface Book with Win 10 Pro 1903, i7-8650 1.9GHz and 16GB of RAM.

Attempted hard reboot of the host. No change.

Any suggestions?

It seems that you have Hyper-V enabled. Look at the topic "I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests" for some Hyper-V enablers that we're aware of so far. You should disable all of them.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
