Troubles with 3D acceleration using debian 9.6 and cinnamon

Post by Niko88 »

Hello,

I've some optical troubles if activating 3D acceleration for Debian 9.6 guest (running with cinnamon) on Windows 7 host.

I've two guest (same debian version) - and both distorts the colors/transparency:

Guest 1:

After I'm starting the guest, the desktop background is like here:
1.jpg
1.jpg (39.74 KiB) Viewed 1206 times
If I'm selecting another background and switch back again to the first one, the background is normally, like here:
2.jpg
2.jpg (35.56 KiB) Viewed 1206 times
After restart, the behavior is like in first picture.

The description of behavior of second guest and more information I'll describe in next post because of attachment files limitation.

Guest 2:

The background of the second guest behaves well. But if I'm starting e.g. Terminal, the background has transparency despite selected color theme green on black.

After the 3D acceleration is disabled, I get an warning on start up:
4.jpg
4.jpg (29.31 KiB) Viewed 1202 times
But the error pattern is gone:
5.jpg
5.jpg (37.94 KiB) Viewed 1202 times

For both guests:
  • Windows 7 Host
  • Debian 9.6.0 with Cinnamon
  • 128 MB display memory
  • Guest additions installed for each guest
  • Virtual box and Guest additions version is 6.0.4 r128413
  • Unity 3d support test (like described in scoters blog oracle-vm-virtualbox-6-3d-acceleration-for-ubuntu-1804-guest) is positive (yes for all entries)

How to solve this error?

Thank you!

Since last post, I've updated the virtual box and the guest addition to version Version 6.0.8 r130520 (Qt5.6.2) and reinstalled guest additions from ISO file on the guest.

I'll provide more information.
