[Solved] Windows guest freezes when USB device is connected

Hi all,

my Windows 10 guest freezes hard when attaching a USB device or starting the VM with the device attached. In the past (up until a week ago) the same setup worked. I am not entirely sure what changed (host, guest etc.). Here are the facts:

• Host: Linux Mint 18.3 4.15.0-48-generic #51~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP 64bit
• VB: VM freezes with either 5.2.28 or 6.0.6 (latest versions of extension pack and guest extensions)
• Guest: Windows 10 Pro 1803 32bit
• USB device: cyber-Jack RFID standard by Reiner SCT with latest drivers (7.7.2)

Relevant entries in the machine log:

When the device is attached when the vm is starting it freezes after the first access to the device is attempted.

Any idea what I can do? I need urgently access to the VM with the device attached.

We will need to see the full VBox.log file from the guest in question, snippets and partial logs almost never contain the right information. Boot the guest, make sure the problem occurs then shut the guest down (by force if necessary). zip the log file and post it.

Makes sense, here goes. VM started, USB device connected, after log entry of missing heartbeat waited another 30 secs or so and then killed the vm hard.

I have replaced some privacy related things in the file:

- Name of the VM
- Path to one of the two mounts
- Name of the two mounts

Everything else is as VB wrote it.

FYI, what worked for me in this situation was to set the USB controller to USB 3.0 vs. 2.0 and the guest no longer hangs. YMMV...

I have the same issue with a macOS host... and moving to USB 3.0 doesn't solved the issue, the Win10 VM keeps freezing! Any further idea?

Rizzato, adding a new problem with a different host OS on a [Solved] post that doesn't solve your problem ain't kosher. But you can learn from the old post.
