Can't execute or open file on Desktop

Post by DavDav »

Hi, I'm new to VirtualBox and Linux so maybe I am missing something.

This is my problem:
I'm on a Windows 10 host and running Kali Linux on VirtualBox. I created a shared folder and I can access my files. I can also read/write/execute them inside the shared folder and inside Nautilus.
BUT when I copy or move the file to my Desktop, I can't open it. Double click does not work and right click and select "Open" does not work. Even with a simple textfile.

My messages log says:
Apr 10 13:35:53 kali nautilus[9369]: Unable to get contents of the bookmarks file: Fehler beim Öffnen der Datei »/home/david/.gtk-bookmarks«: No such file or directory
Apr 10 13:36:48 kali org.gnome.Shell.desktop[1112]: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x2c000f5 (*messages )

I can open it with the terminal (cat example.txt or gedit example.txt) but not when doubleclicking. I just don't get it, that it works inside Nautilus but not on my Desktop.

It would be nice if someone could help me with that!

This doesn't sound like a VirtualBox problem, at all. Just because an OS/program that runs in the context of VirtualBox has a problem, it doesn't make it a VirtualBox problem necessarily. You're having an issue that has most probably nothing to do with VirtualBox, so my suggestion would be to treat it as such, as a native problem with the OS or the application of the guest.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
