Shared Folder regression in VB 6.0.2 with guest Windows 7 32-bit

Post by olaris2006 »

Hello,

I use VB with 2 guests on Solaris 11.4 - Windows 10 64 bit and Windows 7 32 bit guest OSes.
The setup was rock solid with VB 5.2.22

Last week I updated VB from 5.2.22 to 6.0.2 and problem appeared in Windows 7 32 bit guest.
I used to work with large files from Windows 7 guest OS through Shared Folders.
It worked very well until the upgrade to 6.0.2. (Guest Additions were upgraded as well)
Since the update Windows file Explorer hangs as I do regular file operations - copy/paste, open ISO images to fetch some files and so on.
When file Explorer hangs Windows I cannot even perform a clean Windows reboot/shutdown.
The solution is to issue a reset for this VM or do a power cycle.

The problem appeared when I work with Shared Folders only.
Network and local drives work fine.

Windows 10 guest works very stable as before. The problem is only with Windows 7 32 bit guest.

I see this issue as a regression in VB 6.0.2.

Please advise what I can do to solve this problem?
Let me know how I can help you fix this issue.

Best Regards
Victor

Moving from the "Solaris Hosts" to the "Windows Guests" area, that's where the problem is.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Here is a small update about my issue.
Two days ago I installed Guest Additions 5.2.24 instead of 6.0.2 in Windows 7 32 bit guest and it works stable as with VB 5.2.22
So, something is broken in Windows Guest additions 6.0.2.

@VirtualboxFan
On Windows 7 host I have VM to run Windows XP and it works OK.
Try to downgrade Guest Additions to 5.2.24. It helped me to return to stable environment.

There is another major issue with the shared folders in VirtualBox > 6.0.9 that you should be aware of. See Guest Bluescreen using shared folders in VirtualBox > 6.0.9 (#18766).

Nope slight correction, this specific problem was solved with 6.0.6, or to be more accurate with 6.0.5 r129921 or later, first line, first ticket in the Known Issues... ;)
