Getting error when starting a session with MSEdge - Win10

Post by Alew »

I just installed VirtualBox 6.0 on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro running running OS 10.13.6. I am installing VirtualBox to be able to hook to my SNES classic via USB. I've installed MSEdge - Win10 into VirtualBox.

Now I'm getting an error when I try to start a session.
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine MSEdge - Win10.

The virtual machine 'MSEdge - Win10' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1).

Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: MachineWrap
Interface: IMachine {5047460a-265d-4538-b23e-ddba5fb84976}

I thought I already told you to include a log...
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

There is no log.
Nothing shows up when I chose to show log.
The error I posted happens immediately after clicking to start a session.

I'd like to see the "recipe" of the VM, the ".vbox" file:
  1. Right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager.
  2. Select "Show in Finder".
  3. ZIP the selected ".vbox" file and attach it in your response.

I'm having a hard time with this, you should be having a log, otherwise something is really wrong. Can you double check? Right-click on the VM, Show in Finder. In that folder there should be a "Logs" folder, with some logs...

As for your VM, the only thing that you could change without breaking it, is the ICH9 chipset. Go to the VM settings > System > Motherboard > Chipset. Change that from ICH9 to PIIX3 and try to restart the VM...

BTW, can you run any VMs at all? Anything...

I've attached the screen shot of the finder window after right clicking, then choosing show in finder.
Should I uninstall and reinstall?

This is my first attempt to run any sort of VMs, so no, no other VMs have been tried. I'm really just trying to run some sort of windows on this computer so I can load more games on my SNES classic mini.

I had two questions, but if you follow the 1st one, the 2nd will answer itself... Open a Teminal and type the command (verbatim):
  • VBoxBugReport "MSEdge - Win10"
This will generate a "YYYY-MM-DD-hh-mm-ss-bugreport.tgz" file in the current directory (most probably your home directory). Attach that file in your response.

This is what I get...
I don't have any experience with terminal..do I need to route to the folder where that application is first?
