[Solved] Cannot install Virtual box extensions on Win10 host

Post by berntd »

Hello
I have the file:
Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.2.22.vbox-extpack

When I double click it, it runs and after clicking install and license agreement etc, it fails with:

Code: Select all

The installer failed with exit code 1: VBoxExtPackHelperApp.exe: error: Membership in the Administrators group is required to perform this action.
I understand that I may need administrator rights and I do have the correct details for this but:

I cannot find any way or option (as in right click and 'run as administrator') to do this.

I tried renaming the file to a .exe but that did not work either.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get this working?

Best regards

A couple of things that might be wrong:
  • Your rights are somehow screwed up.
  • You have an overzealous antivirus that is overprotective.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

I have no managed to install it.

To do this, I had to sign out and log into the computer with the admin account.
I installed it from that account and there were no complaints.

You *are* supposed to install it from the administrator account, you need elevated permissions. That *is* the correct procedure, so you *did* managed to install it. Marking as [Solved].
