Hey Jacob,
  1. Just saying hi, I feel this thread is too... lonely. :D
  2. Were you ever bitten by either the missing-files syndrome or the ZIP one?
  3. Being an "insider" any rumors if the 1809 September update is going to make it this year? I mean forget about the 09 part, is 18 still a valid target? ;)
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Hi - Thanks for chiming in, with good questions! :)

Windows 10 October 2018 Update (v1809) - Bug - Known Folder Redirection deletes files from old locations
- I was one of the few Insiders who requested the actual change - to stop creating the "C:\Users\{Username}\" shell folders, if the user had redirected them to somewhere else, like D:, which I do.
- They implemented a change, but erroneously decided to delete the old locations, even if the user may have said "Don't move existing files", or if OneDrive failed to move them.
- I never saw the issue, because I never left any files in the old locations.
- So, in effect, I am a part of the problem, for requesting a change that Microsoft botched on implementation.
- Details here: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperi ... -insiders/

Windows 10 October 2018 Update (v1809) - Bug - Copying/Cutting from within a ZIP is failing
- I was one of the first Insiders to report the issue, 3 months ago, well before public release.
- My Feedback Hub entry: https://aka.ms/AA2zn7r
- Microsoft was seemingly unaware of the problem, until 1-2 weeks after the botched release, when media outlets started picking up on it.
- Insiders like me have confirmed that a fix they've implemented, does work.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update (v1809) - Public Re-Release
- Microsoft is being EXTREMELY quiet about this, and has been, for the last 4 weeks.
- That blog post from John Cable, is the last bit of info we have on it.
- I also monitor this page, which was updated a couple times during the chaos, but has also been stale since October 9th, with just a simple note saying "We will provide an update when we resume rolling out the Windows 10 October 2018 Update to customers." : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... te-history
- I recently asked Dona Sarkar for an update, on Twitter, but got no response yet.
- My presumption is that Microsoft will do a re-release sometime here in November, instead of skipping the release altogether, but I cannot be certain.

I continue to check daily for the re-release. And I've got a copy of the broken ISO if you want to do any testing with it :)

Regards,
Jacob

So, no word for a month or so... Interesting. Wonder what snugs they've run into this time...

I was familiar with the KB article, but not with the blog post from John Cable, which goes into a lot more details and specific use cases, so thanks for the link. As far as your feedback hub entry, I can't see it, not in the Feedback club, but thanks in any event... ;)

I had a lot of fun at work recently, telling people that I broke Windows.
Microsoft's QA team must really be barebones, or non-existent, these days.
They are clearly putting too much trust in their developers and their telemetry.

It was mostly got rid of in one of their (many) culls of employees. (See links in Memo to Microsoft: Windows 10 is broken, and the fixes can't wait.

The insider programs were created to do the bulk of the QA but they aren't exactly fit for purpose either.

My crystal ball is currently broken. If you want assistance you are going to have to give me all of the necessary information.
Please don't ask me to do your homework for you, I have more than enough of my own things to do.
