Hi, I'm running virtualbox v5.2.18 and trying to install macOS High Sierra from iso. I ran through all the steps in the install guide pinned to this forum section and it's been on the step of "validate_root_image: validating root dmg /macOS Install Data/BaseSyste.dmg" for about 1.5 hours. Is there something I can do to get it to move past this step?

5.2.20 is out, consider upgrading.ZenJim wrote:I'm running virtualbox v5.2.18
Where did you get the ISO from?ZenJim wrote:trying to install macOS High Sierra from iso
You have more than 1 post and you're a member for more than 1 days. Can you post the link so that we have no misunderstandings to what you refer to?ZenJim wrote:in the install guide pinned to this forum section
If that's from the log you provided, I don't see:ZenJim wrote:and it's been on the step of "validate_root_image: validating root dmg /macOS Install Data/BaseSyste.dmg" for about 1.5 hours
- a mounted ISO,
- 1.5 hours of logging,
- the VM being shut down completely before grabbing the log.

Re: stuck validating
Hi
I've not upgraded to 5.2.20 because it was crashing to much for me and I was forced to downgrade.
here's the link from the pinned posting of the install guide:
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=85631
the install guide says to eject the iso in step 5
I let it run all night and it's still stuck on that same step of "validate_root_image: validating root dmg /macOS Install Data/BaseSyste.dmg"
I just now shutdown the vm and attached the newest log

Re: stuck validating
I had gotten the High Sierra from a friend, but decided to download Mojave from Apple Store and make my own iso.
I used the steps in this article to make the iso: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/VirtualBo ... e/Mac_OS_X
but it kept making the iso into an iso.cdr. I renamed it to just iso extension. But when I tried to boot to it, it would but to the EFI shell.
so I followed the steps in this article: https://tylermade.net/2017/10/05/how-to ... installer/
and it also put the .iso.cdr extension but I also renamed it to just the .iso extension. I booted to it and it booted properly to the install. However, it kept getting stuck during the boot up process. I then reread the article viewtopic.php?f=22&t=85631 on how to install macOS and saw the part "Accept the defaults, with the exception of RAM, number of vCPUs and amount of HD." I had chosen the default 1 cpu. I changed it to 2 cpus and it booted to the installer just fine.
However, the keyboard and mouse don't work.
I found the following last entries in the log:
00:00:06.473577 EFI: Adding variable 7c436110-ab2a-4bbb-a880-fe41995c9f82::'platform-uuid' fAttrib=0x7 cbValue=0x10
00:00:06.487188 EHCI: USB Suspended
00:00:06.487290 EHCI: Hardware reset
00:00:07.424590 AHCI#0: Reset the HBA
00:00:07.424622 VD#0: Cancelling all active requests
00:00:07.883999 EHCI: Hardware reset
00:00:07.884077 EHCI: USB Operational

00:00:08.973303 EHCI: USB Operational
00:00:09.056639 EHCI: USB Suspended
so for some reason it appears to be suspending the USB making keyboard and mouse unusable.
I've shutdown the guest and attached full logs

Re: stuck validating
ok, I fixed the USB issue by changing the settings to USB 3.0 instead of the default 2.0
Installation is proceeding now...

On the top of the article "[HowTo] Install OSX 10.13 in a VM" that you quoted, there is a link to another article: [HowTo] Create OSX ISO from the OSX Install app. That works too...ZenJim wrote:so I followed the steps in this article...

Re: stuck validating
I was able to get it to proceed with the installation, but now on reboot it keeps booting to the UEFI shell.
I tried exiting the UEFI shell and resetting system but that didn't help.
any ideas? Latest logs attached
