Copied MacOS VM to new centos7 host, crashes immediately

Post by vbox_macos »

I'm running a macos vm on a centos7 host. Recently I installed a new centos7 server and copied the whole vm folder to the new centos7 server, as explained here: forums_DOT_virtualbox_DOT_org/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=55003 . The centos7 server is running 3.10.0-862.3.3.el7.x86_64 and virtualbox 5.2.0 r118431 (QT5.6.1)- I can't upgrade Virtualbox as it breaks the VM due to some ICH9 issues.

Whenever I start the macos vm on the new centos7 server I immediately get this screen:

imgur_DOT_com/a/fkIj9rL
(Add htt... in front and remove the _DOT_ with . as I'm not allowed to post URLs yet)

The VM screen says:

Start
Start InitDeviceTree
Start InitDeviceTree
End InitDeviceTree
Start InitMemoryConfig
End InitMemoryConfig
Start CheckHibernate
End CheckHibernate

The VM itself is fine. I was able to do the same thing (copy the whole folder) and add it to my local Virtualbox on my MacBook. There it runs just fine.

The issue must be with something from the virtualbox centos7 server installation. Any hints?

The only way that you could do that and stay within the terms of Apple's Software License Agreement is to be running CentOS directly on Apple hardware. See Important notice regarding Mac OS X as Guest.

Our expectation is that we would (to use a form of the British expression) be more likely to find hen's teeth.

You will need to post the VBox.log file from the guest so that we can verify what is going on. If not, then an admin or moderator will lock this thread and consign it to oblivion!

As Andy said, OSX guests are only supported on Apple hardware. In the really rare case (0.001%) that this is actually an Apple computer, in which you have installed CentOS, and you're trying to boot a legitimate OSX guest and not a Hackintosh, send me a PM and I'll remedy the situation. Be prepared to provide evidence in such a case.

PS. "Hen's teeth"? That's a nice one Andy ;)
