Windows 95 - FATAL ERROR: No bootable medium found.

Hi

I am trying to install Windows 95 as a guest system on virtual box. I recieve the error FATAL ERROR: No bootable medium found. My host ssytem is Windows XP home,service pack 3. I installed various versions of Linux and Solaris and they all work. I am using version 16 of virtual box. In the pull down menu, it does show Windows 95/98

You don't say where your Win95 install is coming from. Is it a CD or an ISO image of a CD?

As far as I know, Windows did not come on bootable CD before "Win98 2nd Edition". Since the CD is not bootable, you get that error message.

I think you need to install DOS first, with a driver for CD support. Then you can run the setup program on the CD. See this topic for further info - http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=9918

I have my original Microsoft CD for 95 and 98SE-A. I downloaded two bootable DOS startup disks that you boot from a floppy drive. One for Windows 95 version A and Windows 98 version A.
I did create an image file of Windows 95 from my original CD and tried that. And of course, it didn't work as a result of the CD not being bootable. Still working on it though......

For Win95 you may need TWO bootfloppies: first one to set up the harddisk; once that 's done: the second one to load CDROM drivers. From there you can run setup on the CDROM....
