Post by janjan »

I have latest kali linux on virtualbox on win7 I connected tl-link wn7200 wireless adapter and i can see the wireless icon in Kali but when i try to connect to a network there are none visible, I also disconnected the network connection to leave only wirless.
The card is working fine on the host machin

I tried to set:

ifconfig wlan0 up
but it always appear down:

this is the output of iwconfig:

root@kali:~# iwconfig
eth0 no wireless extensions.

lo no wireless extensions.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry short long limit:2 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off

I tried to set it up:

root@kali:~# sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
root@kali:~# ip link show

root@kali:~#
I tried to scan, I see the wifi blinking and i get:

root@kali:~# sudo iwlist wlan0 scanning

root@kali:~#
when I reconnect it to the host all is well.

VirtualBox does not offer a wireless connection, only a wired one. Your only option is to use a USB WiFi adapter. You have to release the adapter from the host in order to grab it to the guest.

Please read the following thread: USB basics and troubleshooting, all of the posts. If you still have a problem after reading through the whole thing, please follow the advice of the last post.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

I have read it and also followed many YouTube videos and searched forums.
I do have a wireless usb adapter which is working fine on the host and when i connect it to my linux VM it is recognized and see the wifi menu only that there are no available networks to connect to.

Nothing i do, as i wrote in the first post can change this.
Below is the required DATA

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage.exe -version

@sruliz33 there's been no activity here for 2 1/2 years. The info posted shows the OP had a USB filter in the guest matching a USB device on the host PC. OP did not post a log showing that the USB device was actually in the guest, and OP did not recognize that the "list extpack" command was a syntax error, so we do not know if the OP's PC had the correct Extension Pack installed.

If you are having a similar or other problem, please start a new topic and leave this for OP. Do not hijack other threads, create your own. Choose your title carefully.
