Init Boot gIOScreenLockState 3 when trying to install Sierra guest on Sierra host
Init Boot gIOScreenLockState 3 when trying to install Sierra guest on Sierra host
I am trying to install a Sierra guest OS on my Mac Pro running Sierra and the boot seems to get stuck at the same spot every time. I've attached the latest log file.
It's weird, I thought I did my homework, making sure I was only making the virtual machine on Mac hardware, I download the install app from the store, I used the script I found here to convert it to an iso file (I also had to modify it to include 10.12.4 as a valid version as it only went up to 10.12.3), made a 64-bit OS X vm with El Capitan (most recent version it showed in the list), gave it the iso file on boot, it tries to boot with a bunch of terminal errors showing and then eventually gets stuck on some gIOScreenLockState 3 message.
Any ideas of how to resolve this? Or do I need to wait for some investigation into 10.12.4 changes?

Re: Init Boot gIOScreenLockState 3 when trying to install Sierra guest on Sierra host
If you're talking about the script in "[Howto] Create OSX ISO from the OSX Install app", I corrected the script to include 10.12.4 and I fixed a couple of errors. It would have been helpful if you posted a note to that thread as well, but it's OK, I monitor all the threads...GrgDev wrote:I used the script I found here to convert it to an iso file (I also had to modify it to include 10.12.4 as a valid version as it only went up to 10.12.3)
Now, to your problem. I tried booting to 10.12.4 (16E195) from the created ISO. It got stuck at the line:
IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState 3, hs 0, bs 0, now 0, sm 0x0
Moving to "OSX Guests" from "OSX Hosts".

Any news on installing 10.12.4 on VirtualBox?
I am getting stuck as well on:

Sorry for the overdue reply. Thank you, socratis, for following up on this and making the ticket. I got some coworkers who haven't updated their macs yet so I was able to get an older image. I'll try making VM's from that. Anything else you need from me?

If by "older image" you mean the 10.12.3 installer, then yes, proceed to install that as you would normally and then update to 10.12.4. That process doesn't have the problem. But if you try to download the installer from the AppStore, you'll only get the 10.12.4 one. Unless you're a developer and you have access to older installers.GrgDev wrote:I got some coworkers who haven't updated their macs yet so I was able to get an older image.
Once again it seems that the Apple installers are way more picky than OSX itself. For example, I believe it's the first time that the installation process will not proceed (and will get stuck) if USB3 is not selected. It suddenly became "mandatory"...

Re: Init Boot gIOScreenLockState 3 when trying to install Sierra guest on Sierra host
Actually a bit older: OS X El Capitan. The 10.12.x version isn't really required for my use case. I just need an OS X guest VM that's not ancient history.

Re: Init Boot gIOScreenLockState 3 when trying to install Sierra guest on Sierra host
Has anyone tried installing Sierra 10.12.4 as a guest using the "Mac OS X (64-bit)" template instead of "Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan (64-bit)"? I read a post elsewhere that claimed this worked for them.

Re: Init Boot gIOScreenLockState 3 when trying to install Sierra guest on Sierra host
A couple of notes. The guest was already installed, no problems during installation, but problems during the login phase. The login problem? I've seen it before. From the same guy that actually posted the question you linked to, 'joseluisbz'.
The message that is shown in the console is the same one, that's why that could be confusing.

FYI: Me too. That's how I found this thread
I've got macOS 10.12.5 as both host and guest and VirtualBox 5.1.22 with Extension Pack installed. I tried enabling USB 3.0 without any progress.

Yeah, me too!
But there is none, or else we would have mentioned it, no? Your best approach is to post a me too in the ticket so that you get a notification from there as well, if things change.

Re: Init Boot gIOScreenLockState 3 when trying to install Sierra guest on Sierra host
Stumbled upon a less than ideal work around while trying to solve the problem. - If you disable the paravirtualization interface by setting it to None, 10.12.5 launches as expected (if not quite a bit slower than usual.) Hope it helps.
EDIT for more info:
3D Acceleration is on, and the SATA VDI drive is set as a solid state. Not sure how or why it helps, but it gets the VM running.
