VirtualBox success reports on Windows Insider builds
Let's have a thread, where we can just chime in and report success, when our tests on Windows 10 x64 Insider builds are successful. I'll start.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have Debian 64-bit VMs, from the BOINC project RNA World, on my Windows 10 Insider host.
I am testing:
- Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager launches without error
- VM can resume from a pre-existing snapshot
- VM can write to a shared folder
- VM can take a new live snapshot
- VM can live-delete a snapshot
- VM can power off
- VM can resume from a new live snapshot
- VM can be removed using the option to delete all files
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows 10 x64 Build 14986 - 12/7/2016
- Oracle VirtualBox v5.0.31 Test Build 112068 - Works!
- Oracle VirtualBox v4.3.41 Test Build 112025 - Works!
Can someone test 5.1.x please?

Re: VirtualBox success reports on Windows 10 Insider builds
What's your definition of "works"?
An old VM can start?
It can install?
I can report that an older VM on 5.1.11 revision 112197 and a slow ring Insider release of 14959 does not work, still.
More when I try some more.

Re: VirtualBox success reports on Windows 10 Insider builds
I define "works" as:
- Can launch VirtualBox VM Manager
- Can start any VM (new or old)
We've had plenty of problems with those 2 scenarios, as Windows 10 Insider builds have been released to Insiders.
So, let's use that as the basic test, to determine if it "works".
Feel free to do extra testing, though!
PS: It sounds like your problem may be specific to your VM, and not a general bug that affects all VMs under a given Windows 10 Insider build.
So, you might start by doing some extra testing on that, by trying to start new VMs, to see if that works for you.

Re: VirtualBox success reports on Windows 10 Insider builds
I did and found that a newly created vm had the same issues.
So, being the dolt I am, I went through a few rounds of update checking, drivers and firmware and now I can report that not only can the new vm start, the old ones can too.
This is on Insider 14959. I did just tell it to go to the fast ring (I turned it to slow when I had some troubles before) but it has not updated.
This is good news though!

NICE! I'm glad you got that sorted out!
Welcome to a new age of (hopefully) continued VirtualBox stability

I sure hope so. This has been misery for the last few months.

Windows 10 x64 Insider Build 15014: The following Builds work (can start, and can run VMs):
- Oracle VirtualBox v5.1.14 Build 112924
- Oracle VirtualBox v5.0.32 Build 112930
Note: For recent Fast-Ring Insider builds, I've been having some problems with installers.
1) Sometimes the installer dialog will be sized to be just a small vertical sliver, or a small horizontal sliver, or a full screen with no UI and infinite scrollbar. When this happens, I have to kill it via Task Manager, and restart the PC, to try again.

2) Sometimes the Oracle VirtualBox installer says that a restart is required. When that happens, then it didn't install correctly, and won't be able to open VMs (even after a restart). The workaround is to not restart, uninstall, restart, reinstall. Fun.
3) Sometimes the installer will just hang, like on "Registering fonts" for BOINC. When this happens, the install is not complete, and I can't launch other programs, and I can't even restart the PC without holding down the power button.

If you have similar problems, please upvote my Feedback.
Looks like I'll be using my Release partitions until this Installer junk gets figured out
