X.org problems with Guest Additions on SLES 10 SP1

Post by tjohnson »

I am a noob to VirtualBox but am very impressed, I have installed Vista, Xp and SLES 10 guest but I am having a problem with Guest Additions on SLES 10 SP1.

When I install the additions everything goes through with 2 warnings:

install: cannot create regular file `/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/vboxvideo_drv.so`: no such file or directory

install: cannot create regular file `/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/vboxmouse_drv.so`: no such file or directory

I checked and sure enough those directories do not exist, I am guessing because X.org is installed.

So the install broke my X server and I guess I could do an uninstall but I want to get the Guest Additions working to have better video and mouse support.

Anyone seen this on SLES or is there a link I could setup to point to modules and input directories in X.org directory structure?

Thanks.

You did run it as root? Usually, if the folder does not exist, it will create them. Maybe someone else who runs SLES10 can help you.

Thanks Sasquatch, I did run as root so I am a bit surprised it did not work. I should also mention for anyone else who has any ideas that it is a 64bit SLES 10 Sp1 guest with all the latest updates from Novell's repository.

I have been running the amd64 version of guest additions.

Could be a bug in the installer. If you're sure that it fails only on SLES 10 SP1 64 bit (try other 64 bit distro's) then report that in the bug tracker. See the VirtualBox FAQ for how to raise a ticket. You need a separate account for the ticket service.

Thanks, I ran SaX2 on my Suse guest and got my X server working again. I tried manually creating the missing directories but no go.

I will try another 64 bit distro and file bug report if necessary.

Thanks for the help.
