I can't connect USB device to virtual machine

Post by RayPhon »

Hello,

I'm using virtual box 5.0.14

I'm using lubuntu 14.4.3 virtual machine, and suddenly it cannot connect USB devices(it could connect few days before)

When I select Device->USB->My device, Nothing's happened

and I try it again, Virtual Box shows an alert message "busy with a previous request"

Do you have any solution of this?

thank you.

You must be using a different search engine that mpack of myself are using. ;)

OK then, here's something new. Please read the following: Minimum information needed for assistance. As far as the "VBox.log.zip" goes, here's what you do:
  1. Start the VM. Not from a saved or suspended start. Clean start.
  2. Take the steps required to generate/observe the error.
  3. Record the error message. EXACTLY. Post a screenshot if you have to.
  4. Shut down the VM (if it hasn't aborted by itself). Not suspend, not pause. Shut down.
  5. Right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager.
  6. Select "Show Log..."
  7. Save it, ZIP it and attach it in your response (see the "Upload attachment" at the bottom of the form).
On top of that, we'd like to see the "recipe" of the VM, the ".vbox" file:
  1. Right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager.
  2. Select "Show in Finder/Explorer/Whatever".
  3. ZIP it and attach it in your response.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Hello. I have the Same Problem.
I solved the problem once, but the trouble occurred again.
I show my trials.

My environments are:
Hostsystem: Windows 10 Pro
GuestOS: Windows XP, 7, 10
Mainboard: Asus B150M-A D3
CPU: i5 Skylake
Virtualbox:
5.0.14 + Extensions
Symptom:
Any guest os could not recognize USB device by virtualbox 5.0.14.
When the USB device is selected by guest os, the USB device is detached from the host with sound, but the USB device is not attached to the guest os. The notice of connection does not appear. Of cause, no device driver requirement pop up appeared.
I tried the virtualbox manager Settings to USB 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0. but conditions did not changed.
I found abnormal data about USB. The USB filter Details are corrupted.
Manufacture and Product value were strange. In my case, Manufacture was " USB 2.0" or so.(sorry, the exact value has lost, but the true value shoud be TOSHIBA" .

The same virtualbox binary works well on my other ivybridge i5 win10-64 system.

My trials:
After that, I installed Hyper-V and uninstalled Hyper-V.
I downgrade virtualbox to 4.3.12.
The symptoms were recovered. Any USB device was able to be recognized. (^_^)
After that, I upgraded virtualbox to 5.0.12.
The recognized USB device by 4.3.12 was recognized, but new devices attached later was not recognized.
I found two hyper-V device driver was remain so I uninstalled them.
After that, I downgrade virtualbox to 4.3.12 again.
The guest os could not recognize any USB anymore.

I hope somebody explain the strange phenomenon and solve the problem.

I found an answer to solve the problem.

I added a USB3.0 external board(PCI express x1) which support Windows XP - 10. The device driver was installed to the host Win10 machine automatically. The driver was, Runesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)

I tried Virtualbox 5.0.12, USB3.0 XHCI. Both on board (intel) usb ports and the runesas ports did not work.
I set the all guest USB setting to USB2.0(EHCI) and I downgrade to 4.3.10-93012-Win.
After that, The Intel Usb ports did not work, but the Runesas ports worked.
Finally, I successed to use USB by Skylake B150 chipset Win10-64 environment!!

The price of the USB3.0 board is about $20, so I think it is reasonable way to solve the problem.
The reason of the trouble may be the ASUS onboard USB3.0 circuit or Intel device driver.

Just for future reference, i.e. anyone who wants to go a-Googling: the vendor name is Renesas. XP support using the Renesas drivers was previously discussed in the following topic:

Thank you, mpack.

By the way, should we avoid ASUS skylake chipset 100 series motherboard?

Thank you.

I'm not sure I understand your question. I commented on the use of Renesas xHCI drivers in the VM, and the VM doesn't know or care about your host motherboard.

Hey mpack,

If I am right Harry2010 thinks, the problem is made by the asus chipset.
I also think so, cause I am using the same Mainboard. :/
If you are intressted, you can lookup via teamviewer ...

Hey everybody,

I solved the problem by installing the whole system new.
I think the problem was an chipset driver from Asus?!? Now only the LAN Driver and AI Suite 3 is installed, and everything works like a charm.
