XP host, usb mouse extra buttons not working?

Post by kilves76 »

I have an usb mouse with 2 extra buttons which function as prev/next page while surfing on Windows, but unfortunately these buttons don't seem to work under VirtualBox 1.6.2 as tested on XP and OpenSolaris 0.95 guests. In windows this mouse doesn't need any drivers at least none that I'd ever have installed.

Any idea how to get the buttons to work?

My surfing efficiency's way down because of this

Your mouse is attached to your host not your VM. By default your mouse is virtualised and a virtual mouse presented by the VBox VMM to the guest VM. The issue is what functionality is offered by this virtual mouse. You can directly attach a USB mouse to your VM, but this will be dedicated to your VM and so you will have two mice on your PC one for your host and one for your guest.

Umm yeah. So I'd still need some help on this 'issue'

AFAIK, the Vbox VMM emulates a std 2 button mouse connected through a virtual 8042 interface to its virtual mouse port. With the current VBox functionality, you can't get at the extra buttons unless you configure a VM dedicated mouse.
