Post by klaus »

Discuss the 5.0.8 release here. See the changelog for details.

This release should fully support Windows 10 RTM build 10240 and Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan).

Does this mean that Windows 10 Build 10240 is officially supported as Host and Guest? I am on Build 10565 at home (Insiders), but ordinary Windows 8.1 here at work. I would like to play around with the Edge test VMs from dev.modern.ie using VirtualBox.

It seems version 5.0.8 is good. I have no problems with dozen of Windows/Linux/OS X guest VMs.

It means that it generally is expected to work and if anyone observe glitches we'll do our best to resolve them quickly. "officially supported" is something which applies to paying customers, and the authoritative information is on OTN. It currently does not list Windows 10 or OS X 10.11. Depending on the feedback we get for 5.0.8 this could change soon.

win xp sp3 guest
with extension pack and guest add installed
no chance to use network bridge but only NAT
and no bi-directional Drag and Drop

FWIW there are still issues with Drag n Drop and 3D acceleration support on OSX 10.11.

No one would have any idea which host or guest you are having network issues with.

FWIW, The 5.0.8 GAs break shared folders in LMDE 2 on a OSX 10.11 host as do the 5.0.6 GAs. The folder mounts in /media but none of the files load. The 5.0.4 GAs work.
FWIW, The 5.0.8 GAs work fine with a Linux Mint 17.2 guest. Same host.

I remember 3D acceleration is only experimental. I recall last time I enabled it two years ago, but it caused many strange behaviors in guest OSes.

I have a weird problem with my WiFi connection on my host Windows 10 Pro after installing VB 5.0.8. Everytime I reboot my computer, the WiFi connection seems good, but no network connection can be made. I have to a disconnect-reconnect to get WiFi working.

EDIT: I did a uninstsall-reinstall process, I now can confirm this problem.

If I have VB running and log off Windows (Windows 10 Pro), I get this strange error most of time:

This error corresponds most likely to a VBoxSVC.exe crash. No idea where Microsoft moved the application crash dump records, but if you can find it and create a bug with it we should be able to find out what is going wrong.
