Cannot log on in Win NT4 with ctrl-alt-del

Post by Tipsy »

Hello;

I have upgraded to the latest VirtualBox version 1.6.4 on a Windows Vista Home Basic laptop.
I previously had version 1.6.2 with the guest additions.

Because I only have 1Gb of RAM, I have installed Windows NT4 SP6 as a guest instead of XP.

But now I have 2 problems:

1) WinNT4 boots like it should, but when I try to type ctrl-alt-del to log on, the host OS (Vista) takes over and shows its own task scheduler.
How can I pass on the ctrl-alt-del to the guest OS?

2) When I see the WINNT4 logon screen, it seems to have few colors, 16, maybe 256. Is there a video driver for this, or will the color resolution be ok once NT4 has started completely?

Thank you very much in advance for any feedback;
Carl

Carl, (1) Host+Del, (2) There is limited support for NT4, so you might have trouble with the Guest Additions. AFAIR, it certainly doesn't work as standard. Try googling NT4 site:forums.virtualbox.org

Terry, thanks!

At least I can start using the virtual machine now.
I'll see if NT4 can be useful...
I already discovered that apparently, the mouse cursor does not switch automatically between host and guest.

Thanks again;

You need the Guest Additions for that to work. Have a good browse of those posts.
