OK, I've done a lot of reading in these fora on setting up WfW 3.11. But I've run into a problem I haven't seen addressed:
I'm installing DOS 6.22 and WfW 3.11 onto a fresh HD image, using all defaults.. Installation goes swimmingly. But when I start up Windows for real, it locks up on me on the first mouse click.
I'm running VB 1.6.4 on a host is Vista-32 host. My DOS/WfW VM is set to Win3x defaults : OS type set to Win3.1, 32mb memory, 8mb video ram, ACPI enabled, APEC, VT-x, PAE all disabled. CONFIG and AUTOEXEC are the standard post-install:
CONFIG:
DEVICE=C:\dos\setver.exe
device=c:\dos\himem.sys
dos=high
files=30
stacks=9,256
(The WfW install redirects to \windows\himem and \windows\smartdrv)
AUTOEXEC:
c:\dos\smartdrv.exe /x
@echo off
prompt $p$g
path c:\windows;c:\dos
set temp=c:\dos
Windows is current set to the default VGA video driver. I've tried both WfW 3.11 and Win 3.1; I've tried the SVGAPTCH patch.
I can boot DOS, and start windows; everything seems OK until I click on something, then the whole system freezes.
