VGA Driver Install - Not Meeting Minimum Requirements

Post by a1anm »

Hi,

I'm trying to install an intel VGA driver for windows xp but i am getting an error:

This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit.

I am running virtualbox on ubuntu 8.04, 7gb free hardspace, 1gb ram.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Can you give more information about the type of VGA driver you are trying to install?

it's an intel 946gz chipset family.

I have just noticed another problem which might be related. In device manager I have a 'Base System Device' with a yellow exclamation mark beside it.

I have already installed the chipset from the manufacturers website.

the guest operating system doesn't see your real hardware, only the virtual hardware. Installing the guest additions adds everything necessary for hardware drivers (except for USB devices you might use in it...)

Have a look at my Virtualization References and read a few. Your VM does not have an Intel 946gz GPU. Your real machine has the Intel 946gz GPU. If you want to use it then dual boot your OS. Your virtual machine has a virtual graphics chip which gives basic VEGA functionality -- enough to drive windows, but not 3D games.
