Win2000 Host: Chance to install 1.6.2?

Post by chrise »

Hello friends,
I tried to find solutions via the search engine and google, but didn't find any matches...

I want to install VirtualBox 1.6.2 on a Windows 2000 SP4 host, but the installer aborted and told me that it won't work.

Give it a chance to install it nevertheless?

Have a good day!

Greetings
Christian

The VBox team withdrew formal support for W2K at 1.6.2, and many people have said that this was the wrong thing to do. Sorry.

OK, for those who might be interrested...
I found () an earlier version (1.5.2) of the virtualbox here:
http://www.techspot.com/downloadget.php ... 22afd8dc9d

and it WORKS !

However... cannot launch a XP guest I previously installed on another guest with V1.6.2...

Any idea anybody?

You can actually install VBox 1.6.2 in Windows 2000 editing the MSI installation file, using ORCA (from MS). Remove (or alter) the restrinction on the target platform. Don't remember now the details, but I can check later this evening.

As I said, you have to get orca.msi (from MS), install it and edit VirtualBox msi file.

Then, under "LaunchCondition", alter condition

Code: Select all

NOT VersionNT=500 AND NOT Version9X AND NOT VersionNT64
I changed it to

Code: Select all

NOT VersionNT=400 AND NOT Version9X AND NOT VersionNT64
Then installed under W2K.

Read somewhere this week where someone tried it. Doesn't work. There are numerous reasons why support is suspended.
