Sorry I can't add more technical information but here's what I do know that works.
Router: Verizon MI424WR (FIOS)
Wifi card: built in AirPort Extreme
Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.100.22)
Host: iMac 13,2 - OSX 10.9.2
VirtualBox 4.3.10
VMs all working with NAT or Bridged Wi-Fi (Airport)
the manual states, "On Macintosh hosts... Currently, VirtualBox supports only IPv4 over AirPort.". Mine seems to work despite having IPx6 enabled although some people still can't use Bridged networking with Macs.
edit: I forgot to mention all VMs work when using an Apple Time Capsule when it is connected by an Ethernet cable to the above mentioned router..
