Dual Monitors on Linux Mint Guest
Dual Monitors on Linux Mint Guest
Hey Guys,
I'm trying to setup dual monitors on my Linux Mint guest but something isn't right.
When I tell virtualbox to use 2 monitors, it displays them as it should but one screen is blank. When I go into the display settings within Linux Mint, it says the screens are being mirrored but I turn off that option and then click apply and everything just goes blank.
Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
Mike

Moved to "Linux Guests", since your question does not concern your Windows Host.

Re: Dual Monitors on Linux Mint Guest
Actually you are not alone. If you select to boot in software mode ( cinnamon 2D ) it works as it should. However if you try to use the accelerated mode ( cinnamon ) it does not work properly at all. I don't have Mate to test this on but cinnamon does not work with the VBox accelerated drivers and multi-monitors.
You should post a ticket at bugtracker and be sure to let them know that it has to do with 3D acceleration and post the guests log file as an attachment to the ticket.

Ubuntu works fine, I'm tempted to download MATE but cinnamon looks a lot better .
Where can I find the guest logs?

I found the issue. If I have 3d acceleration disabled it works fine, if I have it enabled, the second screen remains blank so it definitely seems to be a bug.

Pretty sure it is. You can find the log by right clicking the guest in the main manager and then clicking on show logs. From there you can save it to post as an attachment in the ticket.

Don't forget to post the guests log file. They are strict about that.
Re: Dual Monitors on Linux Mint Guest
Where do I find that? Is it inside the guest? Which log file?

Here is a copy from my post above. You can find the log by right clicking the guest in the main manager and then clicking on show logs. From there you can save it to post as an attachment in the ticket.
Re: Dual Monitors on Linux Mint Guest
There are 4 of them, do they need all 4? VBox.log, 1, 2, VBox.log.3.
Re: Dual Monitors on Linux Mint Guest
Nevermind, deleted them all and booted up the guest, one was generated.
I've attached it to the bug report.
