E_NOINTERFACE (0x80004002)

Post by UKAndyF »

Just been advised by Virtualbox that an update was available to download (VirtualBox-4.2.18-88781-Win), so I did the update and now I am getting E_NOINTERFACE (0x80004002) error I have tried the removed and re-install as Admin but this has not worked.

All worked fine all until now...

This usually happens if you failed to install with Administrative rights (but not under the Administrator user) or if you did not accept some UAT prompts.

I've the same problem...

I have 2 HP laptops, one has been upgraded to 4.2.18 (form .16) and then to 4.3.0 without problems; on the 2nd neither v4.2.18 nor 4.3.0 starts using my own account. This account is a local admin and UAC is powered off. The 1st is Seven Enterprise 32bit with SP1, the 2nd is Seven Professional 32bit with SP1. On this pc I can run VB only when loggin using a different account!!

Logs without any VM (I have renamed the VirtualBox.xml)

Could it be a permission error somewhere??? After v4.2.18 I have reverted back to v4.2.16 but (since the VM are the same used on both the laptops), this time I kept v4.3.0 because I need to solve the problem!!

Thanks

If you have the same problem then Noteirak already gave the answer above. If you have a different problem then start your own topic to describe the problem in full.

None of your logs seem to mention the same error as the OP.

No one actually really answered...
My error message is exactly the same

I may open a new topic but having the same error number I think is better to keep it together!

Then the answer given by Noteirak is still the only one I know: uninstall and then reinstall VirtualBox, making sure you install as the correct user, and use "Run as administrator" to give the installer exe admin rights. It's also a good idea to not exclude any options from the install. On Win7-64 and Win8-64 hosts you may also need to check the state of "Driver Signature Enforcement", making sure that it isn't set to silently reject "untrusted drivers" (essentially, drivers not written by Microsoft).

I have already done that! And on my laptops UAC is off and my account is member of local Administrators group.
I do install all the options and obviously I do accept the signing warning for the drivers...
It simply doesn't work for the account used for the upgrade! It works if I use another account as I wrote! But if I do a rollback to v4.2.16 everything works as expected.
Right now I cannot fill a "regular" bug because I have changed my Oracle SSO email address and cannot reuse my old nickname... (what a "mess"...)
The VB's logs are more than just cryptic, but maybe there is an option somewhere to generate a more verbose one??
The quickest solution is the rollback to v4.2.16 but I do not want!!

Driver Signature Enforcement is enabled even when you have admin rights, that is why I mentioned it specifically. Did you check this out?

You didn't read carefully my post and the logs... :)
I'm using Seven 32bit and VB is working when I login using a differente account than the one used for the upgrade!
For the upgrade I have used my normal account which is a domain one, if I login using another local to the pc account VB is working; that's why I wrote that it could be a permission problem somewhere...

Ah, I missed that it's 32bit. Most Win7 installations seem to be 64bit.

If you feel that VMWare etc would be a better choice for you then by all means you should go there.
