I run a Intel Xeon with Debian 7.1-IA64. I installed VirtualBox 4.2.18-64.
Now I want to install a VM with Debian 7.1-IA64 but the expert install tells me
"This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU."
Did I forget something to install? Or is 64bit on Debian not supported?
At home on my Windows7-64 with VB 4.2.18 it does install.
no Debian-64bit VM on Debian-64bit server

Re: no Debian-64bit VM on Debian-64bit server
A 64-bit VM requires a VT-x capable host (available in the CPU, enabled in the host BIOS, and not already in use by anything else). A 64-bit host OS is useful but not a requirement.

I made a mistake about the cpu. It was in a case where all xeons are in, but this one is an AMD Sempron LE-1200. I cannot find the spec's this moment.
So I think I have to look for another server to play with... (or cpu)
