Verr File Not Found

I am running VB on Mac OSX

Running Virtualbox is now failing to run with the following error message

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine JKMacWin7.

Could not open the medium '/Users/Jonathan/VirtualBox VMs/JKMacWin7/JKMacWin7.vdi'.

VD: error VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND opening image file '/Users/Jonathan/VirtualBox VMs/JKMacWin7/JKMacWin7.vdi' (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).

What is unclear about the message? Make that file available in that folder and the VM should run.

Is there something you are forgetting to say? E.g. that you copied these VM files from a Windows 7 PC?

Hi was playing around with the filename after is failed to run. I changed is back to the correct filename and I now get this error message:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine JKMacWin7.

UUID {29c08c7c-a47d-4bea-80fb-4d51c5725508} of the medium '/Users/Jonathan/VirtualBox VMs/JKMacWin7/JKMacWin7.vdi' does not match the value {62ba67de-68ee-4a27-b7ee-6cf149559e3f} stored in the media registry ('/Users/Jonathan/Library/VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml').

Whatever change you made, it clearly wasn't correct. You can't just change some random file's name to match the missing file's name. You have to restore the specific missing file "JKMacWin7.vdi". The procedure for doing that depends on why it is missing in the first place. If you deleted it the only possible solution is to restore it from a backup. If you moved it to another folder, move it back. Etc.

The missing file evidently represents the primary disk for the VM, so repair is probably impossible.

Ok. I have the original JKMacWin7.vdi file intact. I simply backed it up to another folder. The VM has some kind corrput state error that I couldnt resolve. So my intention was to create a new VM and "import" the original JKMacWin7.vdi into it, somehow. Obviously that's not the correct procedure.

Now, even though I restored the original folder and vdi file, VirtualBox won't recognize it and gives me the following error message below.

Given that, is there any way i can restore this original JKMacWin7.vdi file?

Make sure your VMs do not have saved states - right click the VM and select "Discard saved state" if it isn't grayed out.

Next, go to File|Virtual Media Manager, select VBoxGuestAdditions.iso (in the list under the "Optical Disks" tab), select Release to unmount it from any VMs, then Remove to unregister it. Answer No if it asks whether you want to delete the physical file. Repeat for any further occurrence of VBoxGuestAdditions.iso in the list.

Ok I did as you suggested. The VM is still inaccessible, with error message:

Don wants the control file. *.vbox not the image file.

In the same folder as your VDI file is another file with the extension ".vbox". Please zip up that file (or otherwise compress it using the compression container of your choice) and attach the .zip file here. If you don't know how to compress a file then simply make a copy of it, add the ".txt" extension to the copy, then attach that text file here.

I dont appear to have a file with the .vbox extension anywhere on my hard drive.

Sorry - yes I see it now. It appears search doesnt work very well on macs.
